The Red-Banded Hairstreak is an Southeastern Butterfly.  It is common in it’s range. Unusually the larval food is ‘rotting leaves’.  Adults can be found sitting on leaves in the shade. In the late afternoon and early evening the adults will migrate upwards and hang around in the tree tops.
