Generally a smaller Wood-Nymph and found from the mid-west to the western States, but not in coastal areas. It likes open woodlands and also prairies. Frequently seen at higher locations. A summer flying butterfly. Identified by, typically, 1 larger and 1 smaller eye spot on the forewing, also the postmedian lines are distinctive.
