It has a distinctive flight pattern being quite bouncy and low to the ground as it makes it’s way through the vegetation.  There is some discussion still as to whether there are 2 forms, the Little Wood-Satyr and the Viola’s Form. Viola’s form is more brightly and boldly marked and occurring in the southern states.  The images shown below are mainly of a Viola type form.
