This is a southeastern common skipper seen in coastal areas and all of the Florida peninsula. In the Pan Handle area the further north you go the less common it becomes being limited to GA, AL, SC NC, MS … It is dark brown in color but can vary a little. It’s name comes from a vertical cloudy area in the underside of the hindwing that is darker than the surrounding area. In common with several skippers it does have 3 ‘Apical’ spots on the forewing approaching the ‘apex’ of the wing.
