A butterfly distributed through most of the US found nearly everywhere. It is a black and white butterfly.  The male is typically darker and more contrasty. When in flight buzzing form flower to flower the black and white together with the hairs can give a surprisingly blue look even though there is no blue on the butterfly at all.
