The Great Purple Hairstreak is a striking butterfly largely dark with purple areas that get shown as the wings are moved. It is also bright metallic blue on the wing upper surfaces. It is a large butterfly by hairstreak standards and ranges from California to Florida and all southern states between. It can have as many as 3 broods in south Florida. It’s food plant is Mistletoe.
