Home » Florida Photographic Butterfly Guide » Brushfoot Family of Butterflies » Brushfoot Page 3 » Hackberry Emperor This butterfly is well distributed in the eastern states from New York to Florida and across to Texas.  In the Big Bend it is not a common butterfly but relatively easy to find in the right areas, in woods or on edges of woods.  The difference between Hackberry and Tawny Emperors: Hackberry has sport on the forewing halfway along at the top, Tawny has chevrons, on the underwing the Hackberry has clear ‘eyespots’, the Tawny ‘eyespots’ are much less clear.
