On the edge of extinction in the USA and specifically South Florida where it used to thrive. Habitat disappearance is the main reason for it’s demise. A long and arduous project is running to try to re-establish the species back in the Keys at first. The initial results are looking positive but the numbers are low so the populations can easily be wiped out by interference or natural causes. As you will see these individuals are marked by the project to help establish if new generations are taking hold.
