The Palamedes is a southern and coastal butterfly, extending up the eastern Atlantic seaboard some distance. The Palamedes is black with yellow edging marks in 2 rows on the upper surface and can be superficially mixed up with the Black Swallowtail. The Black is smaller and has smallish red eyes at the base of the hind wings. also the underside shows a long white stripe parallel to the body. Also the body is striped with white lines as opposed the Black that has white spots.
