Widespread and relatively common in the South and Southeast. Not as numerous as the Gulf Fritillary. The Variegated Fritillary has no silver on the underside of the wings. It has an orange-brown coloration with black markings. It likes grassy areas as well as farmland, brush and roadsides. It likes open habitats. It flies from Spring to Fall in several broods
